MEDIA RELEASE: PARTI KEADILAN: Pakatan Rakyat Condemns Explosions and Arson
Last night, there was an explosion in Nibong Tebal, Pulau Pinang at a
BN operations center, injuring a security guard. Early this morning, a
second bomb was found in a rubbish bin not far away and quickly
detonated. As reported, these homemade bombs were assembled to create
loud explosions and strong after-effect waves, but did not contain
splinters that would cause massive damage. The most recent incident was
in Sekinchan, Selangor, where a BN tent was burnt.
The timing of the explosions and location of these devices are highly suspicious and are clearly meant to create fear and provoke disorder. KEADILAN and Pakatan Rakyat, categorically condemn the culprits who are responsible for these bombs, explosions and arson.
We have nothing but contempt for those who would cynically endanger Malaysian lives. I appeal to all Malaysians, particularly those from Penang, to be vigilant, stay calm and not be swayed by rumours that may arise.
I commend the Penang Police Force for their quick response and actions; and the State Deputy Police Chief Datuk Abdul Rahim Jaafar for his stern warning to anyone trying to create chaos and the setting up a task force to investigate these incidents.
This investigation should be done without fear and without interference. The suspects should immediately be charged and tried under the Penal Code (Section 326 / 327) for “voluntary causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means”, and “mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to destroy a house”; AND/OR the Explosives Act (1957) for “causing explosion likely to endanger life or property”.
Party president Dato’ Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail will be visiting the victim today in Penang.
KEADILAN and Pakatan Rakyat have made it clear in no uncertain terms that we stand against political violence in any form. We also send our regrets and sympathy to the security guard who was injured in the Nibong Tebal incident.
We call for a peaceful and orderly election in Malaysia.
